My grandmother taught me how to sew when I was young. Some of my fondest memories are sewing costumes with her. She would guide my hands on the sewing machine to help me make beautiful dresses. Due to the current COVID19 Pandemic situation, I am not able to see my grandmother and visit with her like I used to. I am forced to keep my distance for her protection.

I began sewing masks Spring of 2020 to do my part to help end the spread. I've been sewing masks for my grandmother since isn't able.

This piece reflects my emotions as my mind tries to understand. The beautiful dresses we used to make seem frivolous when my time would be better spent sewing masks.

I combine porcelain, fiber, and acrylic medium to create this scene. The childhood dress has died and been scrapped for mask material. The patterns on the dress are replicated monochromatically--mask making strips the joy from sewing. My custom made decals display the chant that runs on a never-ending loop in my head...

Inspired by women of various socio-economic classes in upstate SC during the 1760s. The interiors of the helmets are glazed to protect the wearers from societal pressures and to protect their opinions as well.

The sample tile I was given is on the top, and my reproductions are below. A customer restoring a Georgian plantation home asked me to recreate some antique tiles that were no longer in production for a bathroom. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of making the mold, figuring out the clay and the “right white,” and working the shrinkage rates to get these reproductions to blend smoothly with the originals!

A customer requested a custom plaster slip casting mold from a dog bowl she had thrown. This mold will allow her to “mass produce” the exact same bowl every time!

These steins hold 24, 20, and 16 ounces respectfully. Made of two different clays, the designs on these mugs are each unique because the spiral effects come about by marbling clay on the wheel!

A customer requested a custom plaster slip casting mold to be made of his thrown handle design. This will allow him to focus on the top of the goblet while having all of the stems be the exact same.

A customer requested this anatomically correct llama sculpture as a decorative piece. I worked with the customer to design the form as well as the surface decoration elements. Through test tiles, the customer was able to create the color palette that best represented her vision.

The customer can use these 2-part molds to make wine glass stems. The beauty of ordering a set of 2 molds is that the second mold is made from the first, meaning that the parts of these molds are interchangeable.

I enjoyed the process of creating this pair of bunnies. What a sweet gift for the customer’s mother!
